Here’s a tune from Todd’s newest album.

Our friends over at Sounds Of RVA had something to say about it:

“The much-anticipated solo album from bassist Todd Herrington (Mekong Xpress, The Big Payback, DJ Williams Projekt, etc.) is starting to make some noise in the media.  We have gotten a chance to preview a track from the album (coming out 11/8) called “Punchtown.”  Before listening, I wonder if this is a play on “Fist City” but we shall see.

Herrington shows us that he’s more than just a bass player in this initial song, taking charge of vocal and guitar duties as well.  The song involves guest musicians Daniel Clarke (Mandy Moore, k.d. lang, Modern Groove Syndicate) on drums, bass, keys, and backing vocals, Charles Arthur on lap steel and backing vox, and Jonathan Meadows‘ vocals. Beginning with a smooth bass groove that quickly leaps into new wave territory, the song keeps the listener guessing while a sweet swagger chills.  Reminiscent of Genesis, Modest Mouse, the Sea and Cake, Huey Lewis, and more, this tracks fuses (creepy) angelic group vocal harmonies, haunted guitar and synth, shimmery, shiny rock vibes, and a faux fadeout.  Jazz influences appear in the seemingly uncharted bridge, as the various electronics meld into bass-driven space rock.  We canNOT wait to listen to the rest of the album! “

Thanks Sounds Of RVA!
